The problem we’re fighting
In 2023, the U.S. Surgeon General declared loneliness a full public-health crisis — on par with smoking, obesity, and the opioid epidemic. About half of all adults in the United States report feeling lonely in a meaningful, measurable way. We are, on paper, more connected than any humans who have ever lived. We carry a supercomputer in our pocket that can reach anyone on Earth in seconds. And yet the average American has fewer close friends today than at any point in recorded modern history. Something is deeply wrong, and it’s getting worse.

Friendship isn’t a byproduct of an app — it’s the point. Real connection doesn’t happen in a feed or a DM thread. It happens in a living room at 11 p.m., at a picnic table you didn’t plan to sit at, on a Tuesday night walk nobody put on a calendar. So we built something modest: a place where real, verified people can host small hangouts, show up for them, and maybe walk away with a friend they wouldn’t have found otherwise.
