Terms of Service
Last updated: July 29, 2026
These are the rules for using mōtive. By signing in, you agree to them. They're short on purpose.
For the complete legal terms, see the Full Terms of Service. That version includes arbitration, class-action waiver, limitation of liability, and other legal specifics. This summary is what you actually want to read; the full document controls if anything conflicts.
You promise
- You're at least 18 years old. mōtive is built for adults making adult friends.
- You're you — real name, real photo, real account. No impersonation.
- You won't use mōtive to harass, threaten, scam, dox, harm, abuse, or impersonate anyone.
- You won't use mōtive as a dating or hookup app. It's for friends. Romantic or sexual pressure on other users is grounds for immediate removal.
- When you join an event, you intend to actually show up, or you'll cancel in advance.
- Events you create are real, in public or semi-public locations, and legal. You show up in good faith and use judgment about the event's setup — you're a friendly host, not a professional safety supervisor.
- The selfie you submit at signup is actually of you, taken in the moment.
Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abuse
We have no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior — including harassment, hate speech, threats, sexual content directed at users, or any content that violates Apple's App Store guidelines or Google Play policies. Anyone using mōtive to do those things will have their content removed and their account permanently banned.
We promise
- We review reports within 24 hours. Tap the report option on any event to flag content or behavior that breaks these rules. We review every report, remove offending content, and ban users who break the rules.
- You can block anyone, instantly. Tap the block option from an event's attendee list or manage your block list from your profile page. Blocked users disappear from your feed, can't see your events, and can't reach you in any way.
- To keep your private profile data (phone, Instagram) visible only to your accepted friends.
- To not sell your data or run ads.
- When it's your birthday, we may let your accepted friends know so they can say hi. You can turn this off from your profile page.
Real-world risk
mōtive helps you find activities to attend with strangers. It's on you to use common sense: meet in public places, tell a friend where you're going, leave if anything feels off. Use the report and block features if you encounter someone who shouldn't be here.
When you join an event, you're doing it voluntarily. You understand there are risks in meeting new people for an in-person activity — the same risks as any hangout with a stranger — and you accept those risks yourself.
You won't hold anyone else legally responsible for injury, illness, loss, or damage that happens at or around the event. That includes the person who hosted it, other attendees, and mōtive. This doesn't cover situations where someone acted with willful misconduct or gross negligence — that's a different story — but for the normal risks of showing up somewhere with strangers, you're taking that on yourself. Full assumption-of-risk and release language is in the Full Terms of Service.
Account termination
We can remove accounts that violate these rules. You can permanently delete your account anytime — see our account deletion page.
Changes
We may update these terms as the product grows. We'll let you know in-app when we do.
